Adam doesn’t need us anymore

If anyone is still following this blog, you may have wondered where we’ve gone. (Or not….) We are still here, watching and enjoying Adam Lambert, but we haven’t felt compelled to write for some time. Why is that? It’s all his fault, of course. The planetary gravitational force of Adam has set our life trajectories into new orbits, which have consumed much of our energies and attention. For this, we are forever grateful. But more than that, Adam doesn’t need us anymore. 

Not that he ever actually needed us. He needed us the way we need fruit flies buzzing around our heads. To be more precise—after all, what are we if not fanatics for linguistic precision?—Adam doesn’t evoke in us the feeling that he needs us. Protect and promote was our unwritten mandate. Even then we knew it was ludicrous, but we couldn’t help ourselves. But he’s no longer that doe-eyed man-puppy who became our muse back in 2009. He’s very much a grown-ass man who is enjoying the world’s most unlikely superstar career. He has achieved and exceeded our wildest dreams for him.

Royal Albert Hall. Check.

Madison Square Garden. Check.

Wembley Stadium. Check.

The Kennedy Center. Check.

The Oscars. Check.

The Queen. Check check check.

Even in our most feverish imaginings, Xena and Juneau could not have conjured up the Queen’s Jubilee scenario in front of Buckingham Palace, Adam towering above the Queen’s drum corps as they pounded out the iconic beat of “We Will Rock You.” Our job is done, as done as a blackened lump of what used to be filet mignon left too long on a blazing bed of coals.

For many years, we kept documenting the notable events in Adam’s life, but as television hosting gigs and even another Queen + Adam Lambert world tour came to seem almost routine, it felt less and less essential to write about each and every blip in his life. Truth be told, it became exhausting, even to us. And there are other wonderful fans with more stamina who are keeping those fires lit. 

So this blog has outlived its various raisons d’etre. We rejoice in Adam’s every success. We have our wish list for Adam (but of course, old habits never die…more about that soon). We cherish the miraculous circles of friendship that have sprouted up like fairytale mushrooms, connected and nourished by the mycellium network of the Adam Lambert fandom. These are friends forever. The life force that once pushed us to write here is now channeled into other outlets. Adam has sprinkled our lives with pixie dust. So have you, our wonderful readers. We will glitter and glow with it to our graves.
