Proud of Adam

July 18, 2021

Have I told you how proud we should all be about the Hero of Our Magnificent Obsession? I think it occurred to me when the Obamas invited Adam to participate in their video project, We the People. Curating an event to mark the Stonewall riots, the seminal event of the gay revolution, he brought attention to its historical importance. He has become a true leader of the queer (as he says) community, ensuring that LGBTQ entertainers are welcomed and appreciated by everyone. And he has influenced his own fans to embrace the full panoply of entertainers and entertainment.

Adam so believes in this cause that he established the Feel Something Foundation, raising money to be directed where it is most needed. Although some activists demanded he take the mantle of Gay Icon and leadership upon setting foot on the solo stage 12 years ago, ultimately this role came to him organically, unfolding like a butterfly emerging from his cocoon.

He is truly multi-talented – lead singer of one of the greatest bands ever to take the stage, lofting them to new heights of popularity and success. The best cover singer of a generation; he’s on-call for tributes to some of the greatest singers and entertainers of our time: David Bowie, Cher, whom he moved to tears, George Michael, Little Big Town, Lady Gaga, Avicii, Rihanna, T-Rex, Bob Marley, and of course, all of his Idol performances.

How many times has he appeared on magazine covers this year? How many radio and TV interviews promoting a show, a cause, a project? Style and fashion icon – a favourite for magazine spreads. He maintains his position of sexiest person alive – turning everyone he meets into a wannabe gay boy. He’s writing a live theatrical production! Charming, witty and affable, our dear Adam is a popular judge for just about any musical or Drag competition TV show – on a few continents. And more television from Glee to Rocky Horror to Moonbase 8, combining acting and singing.

Let’s not forget, this is all world-wide and on top of a solo recording and performing career. He disappears for a few days and then he pops up on a project like the Ratatouille fundraiser or the Obama’s We the People, or Andrew Lloyd Webber’s new musical, Cinderella – all the while looking healthy, groomed and gorgeous. Any wonder we still love him madly?

We know of a secret, musical biography in process. Can the West End or Broadway be far behind? Would we not all fly, drive, sail, swim, or surf to stand in ovation, passing our hankies to dab tears of joy, and toss flowers (rather than knickers) at his feet?

Let us, however immodestly, take a moment to bathe in pride over Adam’s accomplishments – surely with more to come!
