Mechanic’s Hall, Worcester

I’ve been thinking about last night’s performance. I had a perfect seat, fourth row, centre with the two rows in front of me empty. Had I been interested in taking pictures or videos, I certainly had a clear view as he stood at the mic, positioned at the front edge of the stage. But I’m not. I needed to be still and focus on him life-size, hoping for eye contact but then again, unimportant.

I had a dream many years ago to see Adam perform in a concert hall, I would be seated centre orchestra, about a third of the way back from the stage and no one in front of me. Beside me, my closest Glambertina friends and the rest of the hall filled with fans.

Adam is on stage with only a couple of musicians, perhaps a piano and an acoustic guitar to accompany him. The audience stilled by his emotional performances of the soulful ballads and roused at the upbeat, dance numbers with new and interesting arrangements.

Last night came pretty close to fulfilling my utopian dream, very close. He was perfect, loose, having fun, relaxed, happy to see us.  I soaked him up, filled my heart, soul and mind with him, his beauty, his character and that voice. He was joyful and at times soulful, moved and happy to surprise us! At dinner before, a few of us made a wish list of songs for his performance. Lay Me Down, Feel Something, Please Come Home for Christmas, Believe, and he bestowed them all upon us! Surely ballads will mark his place in the pantheon.

I believe he missed us, as we have missed him, up close and personal, with great acoustics, a large repertoire of songs from which to choose, and fine musicians to back him up. Yes, the huge stadium and arena tours are wonderful, but this, this is all his, as are we. Love and affection shared among us, intimately.

As we did with the Glamnation Tour, I wish Juneau and I could pack-up the Glam Van and follow him around the smaller venues, meeting friends and making new ones.

Agree with all of the above and then some have been an enormous fan since day one, constantly singing his praises to all who will listen! My Utopian dream is that introductions and articles will stop referring to him as the American Idol runner up or anything related to American Idol unless it’s a profile of his history! He has produced an impressive and beautiful body of work since then and deserves more credit than to have it attached constantly to American Idol. You rarely if ever hear American Idol in relation to Kelly Clarkson or Carrie Underwood. Just had to get that out there!! I truly enjoy all of the On the meaning of Adam Lambert postings…thanks!

It was a fantastic night. I loved the acoustics of the space and it being a kind of “pure” Adam experience. No choreography or dancing, no flashy graphics or lights, just Adam, some great musicians, and some great songs. I was there in 2015 and as soon as I realized he was coming back to XLO I had to grab a ticket!
