“I found something more precious, even more precious than my guitar …. a man who made it possible for us to come back and play… the stuff of dreams … Adam Lambert” – Dr. Brian May

Sunday Times – Pop review: Queen and Adam Lambert at Echo Arena, Liverpool “Las Vegas met Last Night of the Proms when Queen began the mainland British leg of their latest world tour in Liverpool. A quarter of a century after losing their original frontman, Freddie Mercury, these grey-haired rock elder statesmen could easily have become a tired heritage act. But this show was a dazzling spectacle — vintage Britrock pageantry enhanced by 21st-century technology. Half the age of the guitarist Brian May, the 35-year-old American Idol veteran Adam Lambert provided the youthful swagger and tight-trousered showmanship that Queen’s maximalist anthems demand.”

Northern Echo – Music: Adam Lambert on fronting Queen as they prepare to play Newcastle “Since first sharing a stage together in 2009, during the final of American idol the rock train has steamed across the continents unabated, Lambert proving as good a fit as there could possibly be to the shoes of the beloved Mercury. His style, probably close to equal that of Mercury’s, has made Lambert stand out and rightly so; not many could pull that off and be able to keep a name like Queen going… May adding of Lambert: “There are so many dimensions to Adam, which of course fits with our music. “He can get down and do the rock stuff really dirty, and you have all those dimensions, and we can explore that even more.” ”

Birmingham Mail – Review: Queen + Adam Lambert at Birmingham Arena – setlist, selfies and more “Shy off stage, but one of the all-time great rock stars on it, Mercury’s spirit will endure for all time judging by this fantastic concert which ended with current frontman Adam Lambert wearing a crown during his spellbinding rendition of We Are The Champions. Once a runner-up on American idol and now 35, the Indiana-born star led the line with fine humour, a rare vocal prowess and a beautifully camp awareness of – and utter confidence in – Mercury’s place within the band’s heritage…The effect is to offer a fresh perspective on Queen without tarnishing the legacy.” Nice video compilation with this post!

Chronicle Live – Queen and Adam Lambert rolled into Newcastle’s Metro Radio Arena – and the verdict is in “…And what of the man who has taken over from enigmatic frontman Freddie Mercury? He acknowledges he isn’t Freddie nor could he ever replace him. He just wants to sing the Queen songs and keep the love for their music going and he does that incredibly well. The crowd, all lovers of Queen, showed their appreciation. And this magnificent showman deserved everyone [sic] of those claps. Lambert and Queen were given a thoroughly deserved standing ovation by their faithful fans. I hope May and the band are still performing when they are 90.”

The Midlands Rocks – Queen + Adam Lambert @ Arena Birmingham – Thursday 30th November 2017 “For some, Adam Lambert remains a controversial choice, but on the evidence of tonight his vocal ability and flamboyance have made him an ideal individual to interpret these songs along with the revitalised May & Taylor.  A fact to which I’m sure that the 200,000 people they will play to on this current UK tour will attest.”

The Scotsman – Music review: Queen & Adam Lambert, Glasgow Hydro “No one can replace the singular Freddie Mercury but Brian May and Roger Taylor have hit paydirt with American vocalist Adam Lambert, who is now an established part of the Queen heritage circus, bringing spectacular shapeshifting vocals which glide effortlessly between hard rock, pop opera and musical theatre, plus natural charisma, camp playfulness and enough of an ego to want to put his own stamp on proceedings rather than settle for being a Mercury proxy.”

Manchester Evening News – Review: Queen and Adam Lambert at Manchester Arena “I feel bold saying it, but after five years of allowing Adam Lambert the unbelievable honour of taking the mic while Brian May and Roger Taylor drive out their formidable repertoire, I think the galaxy is back in motion. He is a massive shining star. Just like Freddie. Not Freddie. But my goodness, with all the best bits…”

Ultimate Classic Rock – How Queen animated Frank the robot for their 2017 tour Fascinating! “As outlined in an in-depth report from Wired, Frank’s revival involved a lot of painstaking animation work — but first, because the album cover itself was repurposed from a 1953 painting by Frank Kelly Freas, the band’s creative team had to decide what to do about the parts of the robot’s body that have remained unseen for 40 years. Freas might have had some ideas, but he passed away in 2005; to figure out the answers, artist Mark Hough spent time tinkering with digitally rendered models until they found the right balance.”

This brings a tear to my eye. I have a picture of Adam wearing a Queen tee shirt years before he ever toured with them. They were his idols and now he is theirs. Love it. So happy for him.

This is the Best Bohemian Rhapsody for QAL 2017…a very touching ending, to be able to move a step forward. It took Adam several years of persuasion to be able to finally sing BR by himself without disrespecting Freddie’s diehard fans; that’s why I say they finally let him go. This is indeed Poor Boy’s Masterpiece and Adam put his hand to his heart with a smile at the end of the song. Great video! Good move Queen!

    Farewell QAL!
    All’s well that ends well
    Set for the next quell
    Adam always himself
    Setting such a high standard
Making Maestros Brian and Roger utterly flabbergasted
So they bestow him a King’s crown and cloak
That no King swishes and floats
As he paddles his own boat
    Farewell Queen!
    You’re quite the pristine
    Every twang and decibel
    Sharp and clean
No time for losers…cuz you’re the Champions
With great brains on board the mothership
Pulling out all the stops, gig after gig
    Last but not least…Farewell Frank!
    Those rolling eyes
That crank up a deluge of folks
From all corners of UK, Europe
With Killer Queen thumping your cranium
QAL 2017 exits in pulsating rock and roll triumph
Till we meet again…祝你幸福 joo ni seeng fu / Wish you happiness!
