SHOWDOWN!

Front Man Battle w/ Queen + Adam Lambert
Because once is never enough!!

Another epic performance, and what about that amazing last riff? And what fan doesn’t love seeing Adam play the diva? That said, I have my own fantasy about how the episode would have unfolded. In my version, Adam leaps at James Corden’s offer to take on the frontman role because “carrying on Freddie’s legacy is just too heavy a burden and his die-hard fans hate me.” James is only too happy to step in, Adam is giddy with relief, Brian and Roger go along gamely, poker-faced. James graciously offers to duet with Adam, Adam blows him away with his genius vocals, James is unable to deny that there’s no one alive who is better than Adam, and tearfully begs Adam to continue as Queen’s frontman. Adam reluctantly but graciously agrees, much to Brian and Roger’s relief. Tee hee.

PRESS AND BLOG PICKS

Yahoo – A Frontman Battle Royale: Watch Queen’s Adam Lambert Face Off With James Corden “…Corden eventually accepted defeat. But a truce was called with a moment warm enough to thaw out even Simon Cowell’s icy heart: a Corden/Lambert collaboration on “Somebody to Love.””

Ultimate Classic RockWatch James Corden Compete With Adam Lambert in Queen Sing-Off “The Late Late Show segment, which you can watch above, is part of the promotional push for Queen’s recently announced North American tour, which is scheduled to begin in late June and continue through early August. Lambert recently spoke with Time about the challenges of filling in for beloved late frontman Freddie Mercury, admitting that while it was once “intimidating” to perform with Queen, it’s gotten easier over the years — and the audience’s warm reception has allowed him to loosen up and have fun with the material.

“A handful of the songs in the set are absolutely ridiculous — high camp. Because the audience already loves the song, I know I can push it as far as I want. It’s the most liberating thing,” said Lambert. “I wonder, whatever happened to watching an artist and having them make you laugh? Where is that in music? In the ‘70s and ‘80s, there was a lot of that. It was over the top. They weren’t taking themselves that seriously.”

PopSugar – Adam Lambert and James Corden’s Queen-Themed Sing-Off Will Rock You “Fresh from announcing his Summer tour with Queen, Adam Lambert paid James Corden a special visit during The Late Late Show on Thursday. After arguing who would be the better frontman for the group, the former American Idol singer surprised the audience by bringing out the legendary band for a heated sing-off. While the host certainly brought the heat with his rendition of “Don’t Stop Me Now,” it was Lambert who truly blew everyone away with his performance of “Another One Bites the Dust.””

Injecting comedy into Queen songs is rather unique as Queen songs being of a glam rock genre come across as operatic. It takes Adam’s spontaneity and mastery to carry this off with elegance… acting comical but natural, taking up James’ challenge as being Queen’s best frontman. Adam’s high-powered notes and singing like ‘toooooh’ are actually necessary for the skit to carry off convincingly; so it wasn’t as easy as it appears. James’ portrayal is very good, not over-doing it.
I thought the part where James sings ‘Don’t stop me now…’ and Adam barges in…Stop! Stop!…very funny, capitalising on a play of words and situation. He continues: ‘I said, don’t stop me now…listen!’ Very cute skit. Glad to see Brian back again, business as usual, interjecting with: We love you…we love you…
Actually, Queen with Freddie did the video, ‘I Want To Break Free’ in a comical way too.
