Following Perry came the most anticipated act of the night: Queen with Lambert. Before their set, Queen’s Taylor and Brian May spoke to Rolling Stone about why Lambert is such a great fit for their music.
“He does bring his own approach and he has this amazing range, a gymnastic, beautiful tone and he really fits our material so well,” Taylor said of Lambert. “He has all the elements – he has the passion, he has the humor, a little bit of camp. And when the shots are down, he has the power. It’s incredible,” May added.
Lambert astounded the audience on songs like “We Will Rock You” and the closing “We Are The Champions” and “A Crazy Little Thing Called Love.” He frequently worked in unison with May, the two sharing the front of the stage as the guitarist reminded everyone of his considerable prowess by bringing his parts in “Bohemian Rhapsody” to life.
Rolling Stone – How Queen Hooked Up with Fun. at iHeartRadio – Read this and weep with pride!
For Queen, the fact that bands like fun. continue to cite them as an influence is a tremendous source of pride, and they credit Adam Lambert for his role in bringing them into an event dominated by current radio acts.
“It’s just good to be here, it’s good to be a part of what’s happening and this is definitely what’s happening. It’s nice for us to be alive still and still able to do our thing,” May told Rolling Stone. “Adam Lambert is a great channel for us. It’s great that we have Adam, because he’s a bridge almost to the new generation and a wonderful performer. It’s fantastic working with him.”
Washington Post – Elton John, Queen with Adam Lambert rule at 3rd annual iHeartRadio music festival in Las Vegas – “Adam Lambert is no Freddie Mercury, but he’s a scary good stand-in. The “American Idol” alum electrified the crowd with his perfect high notes on songs like “We Are the Champions” and “Who Wants to Live Forever.” He had the right energy and sang a handful of songs with an ease that proved this is only the beginning for the 31-year-old.
Billboard – iHeartRadio Music Festival Friday: Katy Perry Roars, But The Old School Soars “Of course, Queen and accomplished pop vocalist Adam Lambert had to do more than just show up and run through the rock group’s back catalog in order to earn the headlining slot over Perry on Friday night. With each new show, Lambert’s involvement with the five-decade-old band makes more sense: Freddie Mercury’s king-sized songwriting makes for a perfect vessel for Lambert’s operatic wail, and iHeartRadio fest attendees who wanted to stick around for “Another One Bites The Dust” got to witness the magnetic power of Lambert’s pristine high notes. The former “American Idol” runner-up oozed charisma as he strutted around the stage, winking at his reputation of a fill-in while also reminding people they should still pay attention to his solo career whenever this stint with Queen, er, bites the dust.”
Yahoo News – Elton John, Queen with Adam Lambert rule at 3rd annual iHeartRadio music festival in Las Vegas “…John was the crowd’s favourite. The 66-year-old was fiery on the piano, belting tunes like “Tiny Dancer” and “Bennie and the Jets.” He earned a standing ovation after his third song. Adam Lambert was equally as enduring. He performed with Queen and hit appealing notes on the classics “We Are the Champions” and “Bohemian Rhapsody.” Pop-rock trio fun. also sang with Queen.”

Men Have Stylists, Too — Just Don’t Call Them That – Adam Lambert gets a mention: “That black eyeliner really brings out his baby blues.” He’s in some distinguished company (and we’re not AT ALL biased, but he just outshines ’em all!).

Deacon 99.5 WZPL @DeaconOnAir20m: The new Avicii ft. Adam Lambert “Lay Me Down” is unbelievable. Wow!
@darius107: Adam Lambert has a lot of fans. But I guess it’s not that surprising if you’re the modern day equivalent of Freddie Mercury.
@ColtonLHaynes Gotta admit, as a Queen fan, I think @adamlambert is a worthy successor to the late and great Freddie Mercury.
