The 2013 Grammy Awards provide a window on sea changes in the music industry. Commercial hit radio’s influence continues to wane, as indie labels and alternative genres make a strong showing in best-of-the-year categories.

Our guest tonight is Michael Wood, a voting member of the Recording Academy and our resident Grammy expert. We’ll discuss the Grammy nomination process (see graphic below) and share some favorite nominees that no one heard on top 40 radio stations this year, along with some indie-tinged radio hits that might signal where music trends are heading in the coming year. Check out the full list of this year’s Grammy nominees here.

All of this, of course, is in the context of discussing Adam Lambert’s “Trespassing”, which debuted at the #1 position on the Billboard 200, yet failed to garner radio play or a nomination this year despite an A-list-heavy roster of producers and collaborators. If you were RCA, which track from “Trespassing” would you have released as a single with Grammy potential?

Sorry, our team has had work deadlines and colds this week so we needed to miss a few days. We posted an update last night. – J
