PRESS AND BLOG PICKS

CapitalFM – The A-Z of Adam Lambert (Photo Gallery)

National Post – Scenes from a Life: Adam Lambert ““I had the ’N Sync album, but I wasn’t into the Backstreet Boys,” says Adam Lambert, 30, the American Idol runner-up whose second album, Trespassing, was the No. 1 record in North America earlier this spring. Here, the pop star gives the Post’s Ben Kaplan his autobiography through singles — a jukebox of how a child of the ’90s finally arrived at his own sound.”

Metro – Adam Lambert trades rock theatrics for high-fructose pop on Trespassing  “The best songs – Trespassing and Kickin’ In – see Pharrell Williams using Lambert as a Michael Jackson manqué, as does the Nile Rodgers-assisted Shady. But even the drearier hi-NRG workouts have a strong song structure and a storytelling quality that marks them out from the competition.”

I’m trying not to be cynical, but a sneaking suspicion is that the photographer for the article about Elton/Queen concert, the one in Wroclaw written in Polish, I suppose, did not much like our Adam, as there were numerous, almost redundant pictures of everyone except for Adam, with only one or two good ones with Brian or Roger, and no solos, but a few of his back and several very distant photos that were not close and aesthetic like for the others. I am so sad that Adam had to be so brilliant, fierce, and magnificent rolled in one beautiful package that he inspires so much envy. A sin, envy, isn’t it? What else could it be, except
for maybe the knowledge that Adam is gay. Wasn’t Adam worthy of better treatment? Didn’t he sing his heart out for them, was even fantastic in his interpretation of the songs, and did such an unbelievable job with such a short rehearsal time, gaining the respect and admiration from rock legends? It is little wonder Adam senses the dichotomy of his life, the polar extremes of reaction to him. Within my circle of friends are one who would not let her son check out Adam on the computer lest he be influenced, another who dismisses him as a poor imitation of Elvis with none of his accomplishments, then another who thinks Adam’s “in your face” attitude is unnecessary and should be more covert with his sexuality and orientation. Then there’s myself, who is on his side, because someone has to. But not too vehemently, lest the polarity become even more extreme. When one thinks about what Adam’s purpose is on earth vis a vis ours, I have always thought that God made him as he is, a supreme human who is gay, who is compassionate and true to himself, that he inspires the dialogue that must swirl around him, the better to purge ourselves of the demons of envy, hatred, bigotry, etc. People hate being proved wrong, resist change, and come around to truth, slowly, eventually, at least this is my hope. Thank God for Adam and for his indefatigable courage and strength, for in me and many of his admirers, he must inspire them to follow his example.

Tess, it’s very sad that Adam still has to endure slings and arrows. I live in the Midwest, a farming community where country music is supreme. I work in a grocery store part-time (necessary since my husband’s surgery last year) and I am able to play Trespassing on our cd player. Since I work alone in the deli no one is there to tell me to shut it off. Although there may be one or two who appreciate Adam’s talent and beauty no one seems to know who he is or, more specifically, doesn’t want to say anything negative because it may hurt me. I’m 70 yrs. old and have enjoyed the emergence of rock and roll thru Little Richard, Fats Domino, etc. I had a crush on Elvis (for awhile) and went on to the rock bands thru the 70’s, etc. I loved Bob Dylan and Joe Cocker. Then there was a space in my life when no one came thru to me like these guys. Enter Adam Lambert. I listen to his music every day, I mean every day. My husband and I are chairmakers by trade. When I’m in my work studio seating chairs, his music is constantly on. I ask my local top 40 station to play his NCOE but they seem to have a problem with this since I never hear it. I send them e-mails and phone them but to no avail. I rejoice in his sensational tour with Queen. This will expand his fame. I suspect he knows how much he’s loved. What I can’t imagine is how he handles that knowledge.

I have had the same problem with my top 40 station in my area…I think it is time for the glam army to start writing radio station owners and execs….Something is going on behind the scenes…I mean why the hell are they playing Adele songs that are two years old…LMAFO’s I’m Sexy and I Know it (dumbest song on the planet and old as hech too)…repeatedly…Even playing J Lo’s songs…which are mediocre at best…Pitbull …every song sounds the same..and Taylor swift (very country). I know I was listening to my pop station and they played the same ten or so songs all day long…I have requested NCOE and before that BTIKM and got the same lame remark from the djs…”Are you a Glambert?”…and then they would say “we will see what we can do,” which is their way of saying no…they never played him…I emailed them request and twittered them…nothing…

…bypassing the seriousness to get my snark on: Nigel Lithgoe says that Moe, Larry & Curley would make good Idol judges? Isn’t that what they’ve got now? Adam was coy about the offer to serve as an AI judge for the next season, but it has been reported that he’s been in talks with the powers that be for more than a month (not that I believe everything I hear in the entertainment news – by a longshot). At first I cringed at the thought of Adam boarding a sinking ship but then realized, “Hey! He saved Idol before and made it worth watching. Why not again?” Michael Slezak and @ ArtistSupporter quickly convinced me that Adam as Idol judge was a great idea – for the show, for him, AND for viewers. I again watched the YT vid of Adam as mentor which included his advice to each contestant. He’s smart, right-on, honest but kind, and strategic. (No surprise there, right?) If this happens, I’ll be glued to Idol once again, albeit with my mute in hand, and or DVR set to forward thru the boring parts – but this time, that won’t be reserved for the judges comments. At least not one particular judge-in-waiting.

Really the DJ can’t do anything. I would email the company ads and tell them how you felt. If you have 100 people around that radio get together and sent out crazy e-mails to buyers of ad time. DJ are small working person that has no say so. That big picture folks. The ad people would call the big guy up and tell him a thing or two.

I read somewhere that Mitt Romney owns Clear Channel (?) which owns hundred of radio stations especially in the East Coast area. And there was a mention also of even Ryan does not (or cannot?) play ADAM’s songs. Seems Lee Paul’s idea of emailing advertisers is a better option than requesting radio stations. I hope so.
All I can do is continue praying for ADAM’s success. Somehow I feel ADAM has a purpose in this life and right now he is undergoing some kind of persecution before fulfilling that purpose. One day soon the world shall recognize and acknowledge his overflowing GOD-given gifts, beauty and talents. It must be for a reason GOD blessed him so much and yet so HUMBLE. I can’t find fault in ADAM. And with his humility and graciousness, he glorifies his Creator. He is always in my prayers for he deserves everything with all the joy he gives me and his fans.

Why has there been so little press in this country about Adam performing with Queen? I have not seen it on Entertainment Tonight or any of those shows. If people knew about this, they might buy his CD or request his music on the radio. If Adam had more publicity in this country, his sales would be higher. I have never heard of such a talented performer, who has such great reviews of his music, have such small sales figures. Adam said he struggles to feel like he legitamately belongs in the music business. Singing for Queen and having one of the band members calling his voice “one in a hundred million” should give him the props he needs to feel like he belongs. Not that we needed to hear that.

I think the reason Ryan can’t play his music is that he must play the top 40, and I don’t think NCOE is that high on the charts.

I hope that he tours with Queen, takes the AI judge position, and tours Trespassing. I hope he fills the largest stadiums in the world. But, if Adam were to tour Trespassing now, what size venues should he book? He filled smaller venues on his first tour. He should be able to fill larger venues this time. However, his sales numbers for Trespassing are not as high as his sales for FYE. So, does he book larger venues he might not fill, or does he stay with smaller venues he is sure to fill. He may be better off touring with Queen first, then doing a Trespassing tour. He probably could fill larger venues after touring with queen.
