Adam Lambert Week – July 1-7, 2012
A fig leaf? Really?
WILL YOU PAY TO SEE LIVE STREAM FROM HAMMERSMITH?
This would be an awesome way for us to ‘attend’ the show and get a top notch quality stream. it would also possibly benefit Queen, Adam, the promoter and the venue in more ways than one.
They could also possibly use the recording of the show to create the DVD we are all hoping for – IDK?
Please take a read of the thread OP and leave feedback on whether you would purchase an online ‘virtual ticket’ to one of the Hammersmith Apollo shows.
If we get enough ppl and good feedback, I’ll forward the link to Phil and the promoter (Paul Roberts) for feedback purposes only – no pressure – just to show that there is interest.
Monday, July 9 – Mark your calendars for Adam Lambert’s Exclusive Capital FM Webchat “The US singer-songwriter is heading over to the UK this summer to promote his second studio album, as well as his critically acclaimed new single ‘Never Close Our Eyes’ , and will answer questions on a live webchat on Monday 9th July.”

FROM RUSSIA WITH LOVE
Adam Lambert – Concert with Queen Moscow, Russia – July 3, 8pm – No Livestream – World Clock – Via@GlamFanNation
Wow, some time while we were distracted by the Kiev concert, VEVO plays of “Never Close Our Eyes” surpassed 4 million! Give it another spin to celebrate!
“Trespassing” wins Billboard’s 2012 Best Album Mid-year Poll “Other big winners from the Mid-Year Music Awards poll included Adam Lambert, whose sophomore disc “Trespassing” was the favorite album to top the Billboard 200 so far in 2012.” And “Never Close Our Eyes” takes #2 spot for Best Music Video.
Over 100 Million VEVO spins!
What an amaaaazing evening! I’m humbled and honored. The energy in the crowd was beyond! Thank you Kiev!
@adamlambert: Another One Bites the Dust (one of my all time favs) is the last 4 min of this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VxwW6c-nCX4
BrianMay.com – THANKS FOR THE FEEDBACK !!! “It’s a long time since I have seen such consistently inspiring and encouraging messages in response to our concerts.”
Ology – Watch Adam Lambert Fail To Ruin “Bohemian Rhapsody” With Queen “Almost can’t believe I’m admitting this, but I actually would’ve rather heard Lambert sing the entire song. I mean, the Freddie Mercury projections are a nice touch, but Adam more than nailed his parts and would’ve (I think) done a great job during the trademark breakdown section, which, best as I could tell, was done entirely from tape. I know, lame, right? Get a men’s choir up there and do it for real! Apart from that, the band sounded great; Brian May especially seems to get better and better with each year.”
Ultimate Classic Rock – Queen Rock Kiev with Adam Lambert – We posted this yesterday, but check out the comment thread from Queen fans:
“Adam is good enough to bring John Deacon back from retirement.”
“Well as much as I hate to admit it Adam did a fine job representing Queen! And Brian May still sounds amazing! They are still a great band after 40 years.”
“They have amazing chemistry that’s evident by Brian and Roger’s faces and energy on stage in Kiev. As a fan, one of the highlights of the night was to see those 2 so happy and so infused with light and the knowledge that they’ve found another kindred spirit in Adam Lambert…I think Brian is ready to adopt him. lol”
USA Today – Watch Adam Lambert with Queen in Kiev “Queen played its first concert with Adam Lambert Saturday night in Kiev, Ukraine. If you couldn’t make it there, the entire concert has been posted to YouTube. Take a look and let us know how you think it works. The Queen/Lambert shows continue in Moscow on Tuesday, with subsequent dates in Poland and the United Kingdom.”
The Christian Watch – Adam Lambert ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ Performance Makes Waves “Taking place in Kiev, Ukraine, they performed a 2-hour set as part of a joint concert with Elton John to benefit AIDS research. Twitter users have sounded off about the pair’s 2-hour set, praising Lambert for his contribution to the iconic group.”Adam Lambert plus Queen equals something too beautiful for words,” wrote Kylie.“
105.5 (ABC Radio) – Watch Queen Rock Kiev with Adam Lambert Online Now “All two hours of Saturday’s performance — at an AIDS awareness concert in Kiev, Ukraine on the same bill as Elton John — is now available on YouTube in good quality. The set list includes such Queen classics as “Fat Bottomed Girls,” “We Will Rock You,” “Radio Ga Ga,” “Crazy Little Thing Called Love,” “We Are the Champions” and, of course, “Bohemian Rhapsody.” ”
KSHE 95 – QUEEN KICKS OFF MINI-TOUR WITH ADAM LAMBERT “Taylor told us that his greatest pride is that 40 years on, the band and Freddie Mercury still resonates with Queen’s die-hard fan base — along with millions of new fans every year: “He’s bigger now than he ever was. It’s absolutely true, and that makes me sort of proud. And I think that is one of the reasons why. . . I think you come to a realization that it’s really, that is what you are — it’s what you’ve done — but that defines what you are, and be content with that, and make it good. And I’m very proud of the fact that, y’know, our music is still on the radio and that Freddie is still a part of popular culture and I feel that I’ve done something, then.””
Pink Paper – Elton John to Ukraine: stop anti-gay abuse “Part way through his two-hour performance on Saturday night, John, an outspoken champion of gay rights, stopped to address the crowd, saying: “Recently I read about violence against gay people in Ukraine. Beating up gay people is wrong. This for me does not symbolise Ukraine.” “I plead with you. Stop the violence against gay people,” he added. The 65-year-old’s comments follow the cancellation of a gay pride march in the country last month, after three organisers were attacked and further violence was threatened.“
And some great reader comments from a butthurt blog: “Sorry but I was there. I was on a work trip to Kiev last week and was invited to the concert by some people in the office there who know I’m an Elton John fan. Queen is a band I grew up with and though I have never been a big fan of theirs as I am of Elton, I like their music and recognise Freddie as one of the greatest vocalists and showmen of all time. This boy, Adam Lambert, is absolutely superb. Phenomenal voice and stage presence. I could see around me others who were hearing him for the first time and many Queen fans who were not sure what to expect and not at all sure about an talent show contestant (which I find incredible that he is) being the right person for the job but after a song or two I couldn’t see or hear a negative reaction around me. In fact within a few songs the crowd was chanting his name.” And “Sorry man, I’m actually liking it. Obviously nobody can replace Freddie, but holy shit this guy can sing. Second half seemed better than the first.”
The Hollywood Reporter – Adam Lambert and Queen Rock the Ukraine (Video) “Lambert hit his stride early in the show, trading vocals with Taylor on “Under Pressure.”He then effortlessly segued from big rock anthems including “I Want It All” to poignant renderings of introspectively aching pieces, like his soaring interpretation of “Who Wants to Live Forever?” Lambert’s voice and impassioned delivery brought just the right tone of longing and introspection to the lyrics, and his connection to the song and his audience grew even stronger with each verse.”
HEADS SHOULD HAVE ROLLED
This was posted in mid-June, but so much fun to read again post-Kiev!!

Q for Brian May: you’ll come to Poland with a new singer who you conctracted for 6 concerts. Why did you chose Adam Lambert?
A: It’s good to work with talented musicians and we met such a musician. Adam is a great guy and without a doubt very talented. He has an incredible voice. Freddie would have loved him – both professionally and personally. Especially because Adam is charming, very casual, easy to work with and he has an amazing instrument – his voice. Music is his passion, he lives and breathes music, just like Freddie once did. He is also a showman, just like Freddie was and he has a natural ability to connect with audience, what is a very important part of being a rock singer. Because for me music is not only sheet music. It is a kind of conversation with the audience and that is very important. What is weird is that the organization who was doing auditions for singers for “We Will Rock You In Las Vegas” didn’t notice Adam. Adam applied to play Galileo and they rejected him. He didn’t get through and we didn’t get the chance to meet him then. What is crazy for me is that a guy like him comes in and no one noticed him!?
Q: Who was punished for that?
A: Heads should have rolled because of that, but the organization doesn’t exist anymore and we backed off of Las Vegas.
MOSCOW FLASH MOB!!
Gather – Adam Lambert’s ‘Trespassing’ gets flash mobbed “Adam Lambert’s eastern European Glamberts showed their spirit for his music today by participating in a flash mob to his song Trespassing. Dressed in the “trespassing” colors of black and yellow, this group of young fans performed a well-choreographed dance to the song in the middle of one of the most popular streets in Moscow – Arbat Street.” Watch:
PRESS AND BLOG PICKS
“We rehearsed the songs a couple of times – I was gagging over watching them play the songs, and then I got to sit with them and hear their stories.
“So I’ve basically got the best seat in the house, and a personal rockumentary unfolding in front of me.
“They’re gentlemen, they’re humble but they’re also stars and they know it. So it feels good.”
Lambert, whose own second album is released on Monday, cites his fellow bandmates as role models, too, “for longevity, for proving that you can go through decades shaping rock and music, and just be content, lovely, balanced and chilled”.
NPR – A Close Look At Frank Ocean’s Coming Out Letter A brilliant and nuanced essay by Ann Powers. “We can thank Frank Ocean, not only for making a public statement that sweeps aside shadows and offers young fans another powerfully vulnerable star to admire and emulate, but for reminding us that while proudly declaring an identity can be a politically crucial gesture, often the human heart is not so sure-footed. The process of becoming and unbecoming, loving and losing, is what often makes for the most meaningful art.”
BrianMay.com – Memories of Moscow – some great stereograms and nice words about Adam!
Capital FM – Adam Lambert And Will.i.am Challenge Chris Brown For Vodafone Big Top 40 Top Spot “Adam Lambert will also be looking for a high chart position when he launched new single ‘Never Close Our Eyes’ this weekend, while will.i.am’s former Big Top 40 number one ‘This Is Love’ is also still in the running for the number one spot…View a new picture of former American Idol star Adam Lambert below:”

Interview with Russian concert organizer (Translation), posted February 28, fun to re-read!!
Interview of Bakeev Eldar, the organizer of the concert @adamlambert & @QueenWillRock in Moscow at the Russian News Service radio
Bakeev: I’ve seen clips of his participation. I saw Queen & Adam collaboration on EMA. This is a man very close to Freddie. He inwardly, internally very close to Freddie. He is also a great expert, and he has the same sexual orientation. And he does not hide and I think that’s a plus, because it is a kind of disinhibition, very nervous, deep penetration into the material. And yet, I really like that he keeps his distance. It just shows that he is not going to copy Freddie. That’s what I like. He is very respectful for the musical material, and Adam shows sometimes that he can easily sing as Freddy technically. But he re-reads and displays his own attitude. In this sense, I’m looking forward to this concert eagerly, because I think it would be very cool.
Daily Star – ADAM’S A RETRO FAN ““We dressed it up in a modern way and made it sound current as I love when pop music references things. That’s the post-modern age we’re living in. “The thing I love about Lady Gaga is she’s so clever at doing that, putting it in a blender and making it her own. “It takes a lot of talent to achieve that. “The fashion right now is all about referencing something and using that as a jump-off point, and I believe good pop music does that.” “
Digital Spy – Adam Lambert interview: ‘I’ve figured out my place in music’ – “Q: You made the album available to hear online for free. Are you worried that will affect its sales? A: “The ins and outs of sales and chart positions confuses me. I’m still trying to wrap my head around it. My team are doing everything they can to make sure it does as well as possible, and if that means staggering the releases, than I’m fine with it. I think putting the album up online was a handy tool for a lot of people, as there are still a lot of preconceived ideas of what I’m about. One of the great things about Trespassing is that I think it really carves out my sound and my vibe.””
Holy Moly – Adam Lambert – A Few of my Favourite Things “It’s only flipping Adam Lambert – the man with arguably the most devoted (trans: terrifying) fans on the Interweb. Adam has finally got around to making the follow-up album to 2009’s For Your Entertainment – a long playing record entitled Trespassing. We asked him a bit about that, but mostly we asked the makeup-caked, middle-America shocking, pop behemoth about He-Man toys, animal noises and why the c-word can be a compliment as well as an insult. It’s quite a read…
Digital Spy – Sir Elton John, Adam Lambert and Queen team up for AIDS charity gig “Lambert, Queen and John all donated their fees from the gig to local AIDS research organizations. During their set, John told fans to stand against violence against homosexuals in Ukraine, citing the beating of organisers of a planned gay pride march in May.”
The Moscow News- On state with his idols “I have been inspired by a lot of different kinds of music. I’ve been inspired by classic rock and roll of the 1970s, I’ve been inspired by pop music that I grew up with in the ’90s, I’ve been inspired by electronic dance music more lately. I like all kinds of music. If it feels good, it feels good.”
Queenzone – Adam Lambert and Queen rock the Ukraine (VIDEO) “In keeping with his promise to not mimic Freddie Mercury, Adam sang as himself and did a fantastic job! He proved that Queen lives on strong, despite the loss of their former front-man. Adam’s performance was remarkable, especially since he had a lot of songs to learn in a short amount of time. While rehearsing with Queen, Adam has also been busy promoting his own album, Trespassing.”
Queenzone – Radio Broadcast Queen elton john adamlambert?? For research purposes, from page 26, for a glimpse at the reaction among hardcore Queen fans. Opinion clearly divided about Adam. Some harsh words but others less so.
The album drops in the U.K. on Monday!!!
Daily Mail (UK) – 4 stars. “A bracing blend of pop and R&B”
Evening Standard – CDs of the Week 3 stars ” …there are moments to treasure, not least the flag-waving Runnin’ and the Bruno Mars-helmed Never Close Our Eyes. Best of all though is the eye-popping, finger-clicking title track: it’s Pharrell Williams of The Neptunes’ best work in years and nothing here comes close to eclipsing it.”
Virgin Media – Adam Lambert: Trespassing3 stars “To handle the two extremes takes some personality, and fortunately Lambert has no shortage of it. He has the kind of voice to challenge Meat Loaf at his most operatic and enough presence to ensure he’s no flash in the pan. But his second album sees him trying to find his own niche in pop, a setting to suit his undoubted star power. It’s almost a pity that he – or his management – has chosen the electro-rock style so prevalent in the charts right now, from The Wanted to Katy Perry. He could’ve discovered his own space.”
Gigwise – Adam Lambert: Trespassing “‘Trespassing’ seems, overall, like simply another stage of Lambert’s journey. He’s not yet making pop music work for him as well as he could and while there are certainly boundaries being pushed – hello, ‘Outlaws of Love’, a beautiful gay rights lament – the album leaves the feeling that it could be so much more. It is undoubtedly fantastic but it seems like we’ve only just begun to see what Lambert can do, given the chance.”
Salon – 2012’s best – so far! “LISTEN Adam Lambert, “Trespassing.” Adam Lambert is one of the few pop stars with the chops to craft cohesive albums, not just indelible singles. “Trespassing” is a sleek collection encompassing retro-minded funk, slinky disco, hi-NRG techno, robo-pop and soulful ballads. More impressive is Lambert’s versatility: He’s such a talented vocalist, he can handle sensitive tunes and dance-floor jams without missing a beat. On the kaleidoscopic synth-pop surge “Broken English,” he channels a young Simon LeBon; on “Shady,” he pants, vamps and seduces over an inimitable liquid groove from Nile Rodgers. And the album’s glammy title track, which sounds like “Another One Bites the Dust” at Studio 54, more than validates his side gig as Queen’s lead singer.”
Digital Spy – Adam Lambert: ‘Trespassing’ – Album review 4 out of 5 stars. “Follow-up track ‘Cuckoo’ reinforces the US star’s balls-out bravado as he commands, “Walk that walk like you don’t give a f**k,” over a powerhouse mix of techno synths and speaker-shaking thuds. Elsewhere, ‘Shady’ hears Lambert team up with Nile Rodgers and Sam Sparro for a prowling funk number about underground sex dungeons, while latest single ‘Never Close Our Eyes’ cements his ability to master a bona fide pop anthem. However, the record isn’t completely dominated by promiscuous uptempo stompers. ‘Underneath’ is a poignantly powerful ballad that hears Adam showcase his broad vocal range, while touching upon his more vulnerable nature (“Everybody wants to talk about a freak/ No-one wants to dig that deep”). It results in Trespassing being a full-bodied piece of pop artistry that doesn’t take notice of industry barriers and is all the more better for it.”
The Guardian – Adam Lambert: Trespassing – review 3 out of 5 stars. “He bounces from hot, hedonistic nights (Kickin’ In, a brittle, 90s-style synthpopper) to man-in-the-mirror introspection (Underneath, a windswept ballad that, more than anything else here, reminds us of his American Idol provenance), and if few of the songs are classics, his octave-leaping voice is often a showstopper. If nothing else, Trespassing whets the appetite for the next (hopefully quirkier) record.”
The Guardian – Adam Lambert: Trespassing – review “Even more curiously, while the production personnel on board – Pharrell Williams, Dr Luke – are heavily implicated in ADD-pop, Lambert seems to have manoeuvred them round to a Broadway understanding of song as a vehicle that develops an idea. It’s almost quaint.”
@pomegranate02: Trespassing is album of the week on Australian iTunes! @adamlambert http://ow.ly/i/Kurj
@idolsnow: ADAM LAMBERT’s “Never Close Our Eyes” rockets 37-29 with a bullet on the Hot Dance Club Play chart. @adamlambert

After the performance, as we were leaving the venue, a very handsome young man stopped us, needing to tell us something. First, he asked where we were from; then said he had been to the concert. I asked him what he thought of Adam Lambert. “He is magical; he has magic around him and he shared that magic with me. I felt his magic.” He just had to tell someone!
