Our first on-air book club: Susan Henderson’s “Up from the Blue”
Wednesday, March 23, 10-11PM EST – Listen to the podcast
Join us for our first book club radio show, with writer Susan Henderson, whose debut novel “Up from the Blue” (HarperCollins, 2010) is garnering much critical acclaim. The novel has been selected as a Great Group Reads pick (by the Women’s National Book Association), an outstanding softcover release (by NPR), a Best Bets Pick (by BookReporter), Editor’s Pick (by BookMovement), Editor’s Choice (by BookBrowse), Top 10 of 2010 (by Robert Gray of Shelf Awareness), and Best of 2010 (by TNB).
Juneau was introduced to Susan by Amy Wallen, San Diego writer, teacher and creator of DimeStories and now the Savory Salons, where lovers of literature and good food enjoy monthly conversations with book authors paired with wine and one of the delectable savory pies that Amy loves to whip together. Amy was going to join us for the show, but had to bow out due to overwhelming obligations. We hope to have her on our show another time to tell us about her inspiration for Savory Salons. And Juneau has always wanted to have a program about food… In the mean time, we wanted to give you a head’s up to give you a chance to read Susan’s book in advance – maybe even bake yourself a pie and choose a wine!

You did not mention it but I’m sure you know that Amy Wallen shares her life with Eber Lambert, father of Adam Lambert. Eber is a brilliant and talented person.
What? : D (Yes, we had an inkling, but we didn’t want that to be the hook.) – J
Isn’t Amy Wallen Eber’s girlfriend?
Oh haha didn’t see the comments above. I recognized her picture immediately and I remember that hilarious piece she wrote a while back called ‘I sleep with Adam Lambert’s Dad’ 🙂 She’s a good writer.
When I saw that line “I sleep with Adam Lambert’s dad”, I thought it was a joke, a lie or in poor taste, and never read it. Seems like it came out at a time when Adam was getting a lot of hate. So I missed something funny and meeting an interesting person by jumping to conclusions. Bad on me. Time for redemption.
Looks like an interesting book! I’ve downloaded it and hope to tune in on Wednesday night although it’s usually family time at my house.
Didn’t you have Amy on the radio show once before? I remember her being very witty! Sorry she can’t join us this Wednesday, and I hope you can get her on your radio show again real soon!!!
We’ll definitely work on having Amy on our show when she gets less busy. – J
