RCA’s pride is showing! “Superstar Adam Lambert”

November 18, 2010

RCA’s pride is showing…. Superstar Adam Lambert” “… first American Idol to ever tour the world in support of their debut album in the year following their Idol season” “‘Whataya Want From Me’ has been a smash hit on many charts…”

I read the news stories but they didn’t seem quite complete.  I tracked down the original release and discovered the news editors and reporters had ignored a whole paragraph about international sales and achievements.  What does this say about some of the “news” we read?  Who decided that paragraph wasn’t worth reporting? Why? This is the release in its entirety.   Xena

I haven’t trusted official news providers for a long time, the majority of what they report is wildly inaccurate at least on the surface, which is as far as most people get.
How many people really have time or the ability to research every news story properly? Not very many.
The news providers know this and skew most news stories to their own ends when they summarise them whether it’s someone’s new album coming out or a major political upheaval.

That’s why I have a job. One of the tasks I have is to obtain the actual data and information, unfiltered by media, politicians or bureaucrats, not to mention the spin doctors – wait! I’ve been a spin doctor & worked for politicians – I know the tricks and hiding places. Perhaps RCA Ed should run his messages past me for some tweaking. “Dearest fans, we so appreciate your devotion, dedication, passion and of course all of your brilliant suggestions. Rest assured we will take each them under advisement for careful consideration.” “You seem unfamiliar with Adam’s many accomplishments this year, did I say “you”? sorry I meant “I”. To set the record straight in our next media release, we will elaborate on Adam’s many successes. Whether or not the kind and generous media outlets choose to report it, is another matter entirely, over which we have no control. Thank you and we look forward to our next chat.”

Another reminder to not be taken in by much of anything and to remember that things are seldom as they appear to be. I, too have been on both sides of this coin, having done some journalistic work (published) and having been interviewed and later having seen what the final product morphed into in print. Hooo-lee! There are many ways, subtle and otherwise, that the interviewer or company’s vested interests can be expressed by the way a story is presented – what’s omitted, the way the info is put together that can be made to imply things. It’s pretty mind-boggling. I was lucky enough to have had an old-fashioned, ethical instructor in journalism who stressed impartiality and fairness in reporting. OK, so there is no such thing as complete objectivity. But c’mon, make the effort!
