Hmmm, I was not a fan of the background vocals on that. I am going to bring up something we have not talked about …. Adam’s singers. Do African American female singers always have to be large women ? Stereotypical gaspel singers ? Did he do this for a reason ? Why ? Were these the only singers available ? And when one left he replaced her with a double ?
…and, do we like Tommy’s hair ?
Discuss
I agree about the background vocals! Do you think it is because of the recent change in one of the singers? The VJJ’s looked like they were miserably warm. My DH asked the same thing about the two heavy singers and if it was on purpose. I’m not sure if we’ll ever know why but I suspect it was intentional Not sure what I think about it….Tommy should go with a completely new haircut. He’s such a nice looking guy he’d look good with almost any hair style.
I’ve been wondering about them, too. I’m getting used to them, though. I suspect they are there for a reason, to give Adam’s performances a soulful sound and look. Is he trying to reach a new audience by having them there?
I’m not fond of Tommy’s hair
I was thinking about the singers and thought Good for you, Adam, for not going for traditionally sexy backup singers. He just needs singers with good voices and that is what is important. Love him.
Re: African American singers – gospel- one name “Whitney Houston”. Diana Ross, Jennifer Hudson, Beyonce and all the rest on the current pop lists. And on the other side – we have Adele!
Adam probably chose these singers because he was familiar with their work. They are part of a group of back-up singers and they worked on Idol. I think they still do from time to time.

you’re fast, Kiwi.
I wrote this on facebook, too, but will put it here, as well:
Just a reminder to you all that if you *upgraded* to the box set, you should have also received a refund for the original CD you purchased through the Adam Global Store. When I got my Visa statement yesterday, I didn’t see the refund so inquired about it, and they refunded me today. When you upgraded, they charged you the full amount for the box set, and should have refunded you for your previous order.
To be honest, I thought that the background singers were off key.
Here is the whole thing (starts at about 3.30 mins)

The back up singers have not sounded too loud at least. But they sounded a bit off in some spots. My problem I noticed is that they keep Adam even more “closed in” than even the band. the band can adjust to his going away from the normally expected song. He still does it of course, but it was a little mixed up on the iheart show (I loved that show by the way). but these new songs, so far at least, need some filler if he is not going to use a track.
Holy Smokes ladies! Give these guys a break already. This is the very first time they performed some of these songs in public. The sound on Gale Chester’s version is so out of sync, I don’t know how you can tell anything in the details, but really – why? The group just learned the music and have hardly had a minute for any choreography either sonically or physically. Do you do this to your children? Just sit back and enjoy it all together – watch Adam’s gorgeous happy face and body – is he complaining about anyone? I am sure that by the time they are touring with these songs, they will be perfect!

Music video next week!!! http://blog.vevo.com/adam-lambert-talks-about-his-new-trespassing-album/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=adam-lambert-talks-about-his-new-trespassing-album
Hey gals. It’s been a while, I know, (and I don’t drop by much) but after reading the comments about the AA backup singers i couldn’t resist putting in my two cents. Here’s my thoughts. 1. Why them? why not pick girls more attractive for your team? I know, shallow of me, but true of me. I’m an honest person. what can I say. 2. Well they are probably dang good singers. 3. Well, this is just like Adam, he doesn’t discriminate. Which is a good thing. I love that about him ( all the while thinking to myself why I’m discriminating but at the same time loving Adam for not, and learning from him yet again). 4. I wonder what Tommy thinks. 5. Where’s Monty? ( I know, you all probably know this already). oh yeah, I think he is touring with Madonna again? 6. I miss the old dancers he had on his last tour. And I know this is off topic, and I really shouldn’t comment on this yet since I have not listened to Adam’s whole album but, I already am thinking I liked his first album better than his sophomore one….Yikes, did I just reveal this on a Glambert site!?
I have to say though that I love “Outlaws Of Love.” Shame on those who actually say “they will burn in hell.”
cimi…thanks for the honesty. But I think you really need to give Trespassing a complete listen at least twice. I think you will change your mind. for people who aren’t into dance music (and I’m not saying you aren’t) it may seem too pop. But there are the darker side, fantastic ballads that will rival anything on FYE. And you can really love both albums! I was not all that into loud dance-pop music, until Adam sang it!
Hi Cimi, good to see you here again. Yes, give Trespassing a good listen. It really is a great album, but perhaps pop and dance tunes are not your thing? You’re probably right about the singers, Adam wouldn’t have chosen them if they could lend good support to his own voice.
Awww. Proud dad. http://twitpic.com/9lkvpy
Bet he thought he’d never see the day, his kid on vinyl !
Love it.
Good review. I don’t think anyone has posted it here yet: http://www.hollywoodreporter.com//idol-worship/american-idol-adam-lambert-trespassing-track-324514?miss=1

Another review, and yet another choice of “favorite” songs. I find this so interesting … these are music reviewers and reviews are all over the place. I think it shows the fragmented state of the music business today, pop, rock, dance, electro, emo, something for every taste but nothing for everyone. Or is it the lack of knowledge of the reviewers ?
I’ve gotta go back and research the reviews for Adele’s 21, a smash hit, in hindsight.
Xena, re. The backup singers. Beyonce, Whitney, etc. we’re stars. Begs the question, would they be stars if they were large. Look at Jennifer Hudson’s weight loss. I’m looking at background singers, specifically Gospel singers, more often than not large, almost a stereotype. The question I’m asking is did Adam choose them for a reason, as in, don’t want to make my uverwhelmingly female fans jealous .
Just stupid things that cross my mind and should probably keep to myself
So many reviews and the results are very wild! Some people you can tell want Adam to do Rock. Some do not like electronica pop. On and on….as usual with Adam. But I notice there is so much comparison to other artists. I assume this is normal in the “album review” world…giving people a sense of what the sound is. But one or two things I’ve read (probably amateurs) suggest a rip-off of say, Prince or Michael. Those made me made. The comparisons are fine and mostly complimentary. But Adam is his own pop star thank you! This whole business of stars and “grading” is so subjective. You have to know the reviewer; their tastes, reputation, etc., to see if the grade is a good one! Adam seems to be doing quite well in that respect.
Buffy, I find that so many reviewers have lived in a very narrow world so they have few references outside music. Look at all the ways we have found to describe Adam, his music, character, personality, presence – from Apollo to a panther and so much more in between. They don’t even listen to all kinds of music – just pop/rock/rap. Kind of pathetic for such a big industry. This is why I think it’s important for fans and those outside “the biz” to write and talk about Adam and his music. We’re actually going to discuss some of these issues on tonight’s radio show! Call-in and talk about the reviewers – it’s one of tonight’s topics!
Cheers!

Forgot to mention a great saying in politics “The only poll that counts is on election day”. Any of these “professional” ratings are like a pollster not doing a survey and then sharing his own opinion. Bottom-line – it’s music downloads, sales and tickets for live shows that matter. Fortunately most people don’t read every review and most voters don’t follow every poll and pundit. Like a good candidate who can speak directly to voters, Adam is very good at communicating directly with listeners and fans and the interviews and performances are going great! Best to share those as widely as possible.
