Adam Lambert: My view during the Kiev soundcheck… So excited for tomorrow!@QueenWillRock! pic.twitter.com/1VJH0Etc

@LeraButters with Adam Lambert in Kiev last night post soundcheck: He is SO sweet)))))) @adamlambert! Adam, I need a hug from you tomorrow))) And thank you for today))…6-29-12. http://twitpic.com/a20bjw
Elton John and Queen with Adam Lambert brought the match against AIDS more than 250 thousand people (photos) “June 30, 2012 in the main square of Ukraine were legendary musicians Elton John and the band Queen and Adam Lambert. The concert, organized by Ellen Pinchuk, “ANTIAIDS” and dedicated to the fight against AIDS, gathered in the official fan zone Euro 2012 over 150,000 people. According to city officials only Khreshchatyk and adjacent streets it’s more than 250 thousand people. Live three national television channels watched this concert more than 20 percent of the television audience the evening air!” Great photos on the site:
BrianMay.com - THANKS FOR THE FEEDBACK !!! “It’s a long time since I have seen such consistently inspiring and encouraging messages in response to our concerts.”
Ology - Watch Adam Lambert Fail To Ruin “Bohemian Rhapsody” With Queen “Almost can’t believe I’m admitting this, but I actually would’ve rather heard Lambert sing the entire song. I mean, the Freddie Mercury projections are a nice touch, but Adam more than nailed his parts and would’ve (I think) done a great job during the trademark breakdown section, which, best as I could tell, was done entirely from tape. I know, lame, right? Get a men’s choir up there and do it for real! Apart from that, the band sounded great; Brian May especially seems to get better and better with each year.”
Ultimate Classic Rock – Queen Rock Kiev with Adam Lambert - We posted this yesterday, but check out the comment thread from Queen fans:
“Adam is good enough to bring John Deacon back from retirement.”
“Well as much as I hate to admit it Adam did a fine job representing Queen! And Brian May still sounds amazing! They are still a great band after 40 years.”
“They have amazing chemistry that’s evident by Brian and Roger’s faces and energy on stage in Kiev. As a fan, one of the highlights of the night was to see those 2 so happy and so infused with light and the knowledge that they’ve found another kindred spirit in Adam Lambert…I think Brian is ready to adopt him. lol”
USA Today - Watch Adam Lambert with Queen in Kiev “Queen played its first concert with Adam Lambert Saturday night in Kiev, Ukraine. If you couldn’t make it there, the entire concert has been posted to YouTube. Take a look and let us know how you think it works. The Queen/Lambert shows continue in Moscow on Tuesday, with subsequent dates in Poland and the United Kingdom.”
The Christian Watch - Adam Lambert ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ Performance Makes Waves ”Taking place in Kiev, Ukraine, they performed a 2-hour set as part of a joint concert with Elton John to benefit AIDS research. Twitter users have sounded off about the pair’s 2-hour set, praising Lambert for his contribution to the iconic group.”Adam Lambert plus Queen equals something too beautiful for words,” wrote Kylie.“
105.5 (ABC Radio) - Watch Queen Rock Kiev with Adam Lambert Online Now “All two hours of Saturday’s performance — at an AIDS awareness concert in Kiev, Ukraine on the same bill as Elton John — is now available on YouTube in good quality. The set list includes such Queen classics as “Fat Bottomed Girls,” “We Will Rock You,” “Radio Ga Ga,” “Crazy Little Thing Called Love,” “We Are the Champions” and, of course, “Bohemian Rhapsody.” ”
KSHE 95 - QUEEN KICKS OFF MINI-TOUR WITH ADAM LAMBERT ”Taylor told us that his greatest pride is that 40 years on, the band and Freddie Mercury still resonates with Queen’s die-hard fan base — along with millions of new fans every year: “He’s bigger now than he ever was. It’s absolutely true, and that makes me sort of proud. And I think that is one of the reasons why. . . I think you come to a realization that it’s really, that is what you are — it’s what you’ve done — but that defines what you are, and be content with that, and make it good. And I’m very proud of the fact that, y’know, our music is still on the radio and that Freddie is still a part of popular culture and I feel that I’ve done something, then.”"
Pink Paper - Elton John to Ukraine: stop anti-gay abuse ”Part way through his two-hour performance on Saturday night, John, an outspoken champion of gay rights, stopped to address the crowd, saying: “Recently I read about violence against gay people in Ukraine. Beating up gay people is wrong. This for me does not symbolise Ukraine.” ”I plead with you. Stop the violence against gay people,” he added. The 65-year-old’s comments follow the cancellation of a gay pride march in the country last month, after three organisers were attacked and further violence was threatened.“
And some great reader comments from a butthurt blog: ”Sorry but I was there. I was on a work trip to Kiev last week and was invited to the concert by some people in the office there who know I’m an Elton John fan. Queen is a band I grew up with and though I have never been a big fan of theirs as I am of Elton, I like their music and recognise Freddie as one of the greatest vocalists and showmen of all time. This boy, Adam Lambert, is absolutely superb. Phenomenal voice and stage presence. I could see around me others who were hearing him for the first time and many Queen fans who were not sure what to expect and not at all sure about an talent show contestant (which I find incredible that he is) being the right person for the job but after a song or two I couldn’t see or hear a negative reaction around me. In fact within a few songs the crowd was chanting his name.” And “Sorry man, I’m actually liking it. Obviously nobody can replace Freddie, but holy shit this guy can sing. Second half seemed better than the first.”
TheMoscowNews – On stage with his idols: Queen with Adam Lambert Interview. ”Q: What do you think people are expecting from your concerts with Queen and why? Old hits or some new songs? A: “We are going to do a lot of greatest hits, that’s what people want, it’s going to be a great show.”“

Greatest concert ever. Adam needs your help now.; last few hours at the Q102 (an Iheart station) fan contest. Please vote http://www.q102.com/pages/ultimate_fan/
We Adam enthusiasts (I refuse to call myself a Glambert. Sorry) have been admonished by other fans to ignore the “haters” and instead direct our positive energy to Adam & Queen. Wise, I’m sure. In the last 24+ hours, I’ve spent a lot of time blissing out to YouTube replays of Saturday’s Kiev concert, and I have to say I did the unwise thing and ventured into the comments section once too often. The opinions expressed there are almost overwhelmingly positive if not downright glowing and ecstatic. There are however, the requisite number of naysayers, grumblers and haters.
There won’t be any of those here, needless to say. But I’m just going to put a couple of thoughts out there for the consideration of… the ethers.
#1: Freddie’s not coming back and the reason he’s not is because his life was prematurely cut short by AIDS, depriving the world of his unique genius. Now, there’s a giant unfillable hole where he should have been.
The artists who participated in the Kiev concert waived their usual fees for this charitable event – And naturally that includes Adam and the members of Queen Rock Band. It’s possible that because of their generosity and that of so many others who’ve given over the years that eventually we won’t lose irreplaceable individuals and their contributions to our cultural and personal lives. Maybe you won’t have to suffer a loss like Freddie’s ever again.
#2: If you are as you claim to be, hardcore Queen fans, why not respect Brian and Roger and their right to perform the iconic music they were so integral in creating? Why not respect their choice of how best to carry on their legacy and how to offer it to fans both old and new in a way they see as being in keeping with its spirit, and Freddie’s?
Your taste in front men may run otherwise, but why not get over yourselves and try to see from a slightly different vantage point?
(Preaching to the choir! Getting down from soapbox of obviousness now…)
Thank you for this post. I read a very ugly response to the concert in Kiev and it was nasty what was said about Adam. It hurt me and I kept thinking about it the whole night last night. I posted something that we should not hate but enjoy the talents of myriad artists, etc. we should altogether enjoy good music. I love Adam just like all his fans. Now, I did not know that the whole Queen Band + Adam and all these that are participating in these events have waived their fees for the good of the Aids Cause. This knowledge really touched my heart and made me cry. Bless you all. And you too of course, annehedonia. You said it so well.
I thought it was alright. I’m a bit of a perfectionist so this is all you’ll get from me
