In the latest installment, Sauli provides a little preview about his experience in the Nevada desert at Burning Man. He says he’ll blog about it. A short section:
S: Well, there were… there were all kinds of performances, flames, and in the end the whole place is set up on fire and…
K: Oh dear! Oh my God!
S: The car queues were five hours long and the whole place is totally insane.
K: Oh, wow.
S: You have to ride on bike to every place because it’s so big and you have to have a mask on your face all the time because of the sand that’s flying there. I came back after a week and I’ve got my hair and scalp and these nostrils and ears and mouth full of that fine sand. There are these sand tornados going around… It’s totally not a place for you! (laughs)
Sauli in Hollywood - And here’s Sauli’s post (in Finnish) about his Burning Man experience, with photos. Adam grew his goatee to protect his…delicate complexion from the fierce, desert sun and duststorms. Here’s the translation in English (thank you miachihuandzinnia). Highlights: Adam and Sauli flew to Burning Man in a small private plane (I bet last time, Adam made the trip by 20-hour drive…). The view of Burning Man from the air is amazing. “I’ve never danced as much as during this week…” ”The whole week there in the desert was rough, for sure, but I wouldn’t change one day of it!”

We loved this from Sauli’s visit to New York City in early August: ”On Friday I went to see a “play” called “Sleep no more” with my friends and all I can say is: WHOA WHOA! It’s hard to describe it with words, but I hope you understand something of this. You walk into the performance through a dark maze and everyone gets a ticket with a number on it. After the maze you end up in a 1930-40′s style cabaret restaurant, where you can enjoy a couple of drinks. And at this point I say it’s worth taking those drinks!! All, the waiters included, are dressed according to the spirit of times and the atmosphere is really genuine. You have to wait in the restaurant until your number is called and then the spectators are divided into groups. In the back of the restaurant there is a room where you have to go and there everyone is given a mask. You are told that you are not allowed to speak during the performance, nor take the mask away from your face… (I was already panicking sooo at this stage…) And this is only just the beginning… The performers welcome you to the hotel where strange things are happening, and they give you a small introduction of the history of the hotel. The hotel where you are taken to has six floors and you can freely go wherever you want. There are people, “actors”, staying in the hotel, and it is worth following where they are going. Sometimes you just don’t know who is an actor and who is a spectator, if the actors put masks on their faces, too. Really scary!! The place is huge, dark, scary, smoky, and there are strange things going on in the rooms. For example, “murders”. Once I ended up in a labyrinth and it took me 15 minutes to find my way out. Altogether, you have two hours to circle around the hotel and I recommend that you watch the performance until the end. The end is the best in the whole thing and you find out the plot of the story. I know it is hard for you to understand this, but you just can’t write this down. You must see this!! The scariest experience ever, but really impressive!! Maybe after a week I can sleep again through the night without thinking about this…”
